OCIN 2023|Grand Opening of OCIN 2023:Planning the industrial development and meeting academic expections

October 21st, 2023, the grand opening of the Oriental Conference of Interventional NeurovascologyOCINand the Academic Annual Meeting of the Cerebral Stroke Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association was successfully held at the Shanghai International Convention Center. The event was organized by the Shanghai Medical Association and the Stroke Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association.

Professor Hong Bo from Shanghai General Hospital presided over the opening ceremony, graced by the presence and speeches of distinguished representatives from renowned international academic associations, as well as leaders from esteemed domestic hospitals and societies.

As per Professor Liu Jianmin, the 23-year legacy of OCIN closely mirrors the progression of neurointerventional technology in China. The nation now boasts more than 5,000 neurointerventional physicians, a remarkable surge from fewer than 100 in the past, along with more than 2,000 hospitals equipped to conduct neurointerventional surgeries. Neurological intervention, in conjunction with medication and surgery, has emerged as one of the three primary pillars supporting the diagnosis and management of cerebrovascular diseases. With evolving technology and an improved understanding of diseases, several previously unimaginable advancements have become a reality. However, lingering questions persist, and OCIN's core objectives and missions revolve around the imperative for increased research, collaboration, and innovation to address these outstanding concerns.

As outlined by Professor Wu Zhongxue, every year OCIN facilitates the dissemination of the latest concepts and technology, drawing from both domestic and international sources for neurointerventionalists. This initiative enables ongoing self-reflection and learning from the most advanced practices, establishing a comprehensive framework for the progression of neurointerventional technology in China.  Professor Wu is confident that through the promotion and development of OCIN, China's neurointerventional technology will advance more rapidly and efficiently.

Professor J. Mocco highlighted SNIS's intent to deepen its collaboration with OCIN in the future, aiming to jointly advance technology exchange, evidence-based research, and concept promotion. Furthermore, SNIS warmly welcomes contributions from Chinese experts to enhance mutual understanding of technical expertise and experience. SNIS eagerly anticipates addressing technical challenges through more frequent exchanges, thereby offering robust support for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cerebrovascular diseases. Ultimately, this collaborative effort seeks to contribute significantly to the global development of cerebrovascular disease diagnosis and treatment technology.

As stated by Professor Zsolt Kulcsár, ESMINT is enthusiastic about sustaining a lasting partnership with OCIN, specifically focusing on educating young physicians. Moreover, ESMINT anticipates that Chinese medical professionals will contribute higher quality, evidence-based research to the realm of neurointerventional technology. Through joint research endeavors, ESMINT aims to collaboratively foster the invention and advancement of neurointerventional technologies.

Applauding the remarkable contributions made by Professor Liu Jianmin's team and OCIN to propel neurointerventional technology in China, Senior Colonel Xu Caiming conveyed his aspiration for Chinese neurointerventional physicians to steadfastly uphold the foundational principles of medicine. He expressed hope for the creation of further indigenous innovations in China to safeguard the lives and health of the population. Additionally, he encouraged leveraging OCIN's platform to unite with medical professionals worldwide, pooling collective strengths to significantly bolster China's contribution to the global effort in preventing and treating cerebrovascular diseases.

President Wu Jinglei emphasized that over the past 23 years, OCIN has played a pivotal role in driving the progress of neurointervention in China. The convergence of distinguished academics and seasoned specialists, both domestic and international, at the conference attested to the continuous advancement of neurointerventional technology in China and its integration on the global stage. Looking ahead, the Shanghai Medical Association remains committed to championing the growth and establishment of OCIN. Their focus will be on creating a transparent and comprehensive academic forum to propel the advancement of neurointerventional technology, both domestically and internationally. This initiative aims to provide hope and pivotal advancements in care to an expanding community of patients grappling with cerebrovascular illnesses.

OCIN 2023 will persist in being an inclusive platform for collective advancement among all neurointerventionalists, remaining faithful to the conference's enduring spirit and principles. It aims to rejuvenate the essence of communication while exploring novel pathways for innovation. Moreover, it is our aspiration that neurointerventional physicians adopt an open and collaborative stance to discern content that addresses their specific needs, uncover ideas and technologies for future relevance, and collectively script a new chapter in the conference's legacy!
