OCIN 2022 | Professor Xu Yi: OCIN Demonstrates World Standards in Concept, Practice, Technology and Equipment

Conference executive president Professor Xu Yi gives us an insight into the highlights of the conference as well as the perseverance and innovation of the conference after 21 years of development.

“It is the constant theme of OCIN to show the world's latest treatment concepts and the most advanced technologies, methods and instruments in the field of neurointervention.”

From December 15 to 18, 2022, the Oriental Conference of Interventional Neurovascology 2022 (OCIN 2022) will be held both online and offline.

Conference executive president Professor Xu Yi gives us an insight into the highlights of the conference as well as the perseverance and innovation of the conference after 21 years of development.

Characteristics, Hot Spots and Innovation of OCIN

Professor Xu Yi told us that the progress of neurointervention cannot be separated from the progress of contemporary medical imaging and materials science, and the progress of neurointervention theory and technology. Therefore, the platform of OCIN integrates the most advanced academic theory and practice, academic research results, and neurointerventional equipment display.

  • Pay Attention to Ischemic Stroke and Promote the Construction of Healthy China

Professor Xu Yi said, “In terms of the proportion of the content of this year's conference, ischemic stroke has accounted for half of the total, or even a larger share. This shift is also more in line with the strategic needs of the Healthy China 2030.”

As the national Stroke Screening and Prevention Demonstration Base, Changhai Hospital is one of the first Advanced Stroke Center certified by the Stroke Prevention Project Committee. As early as 2013, the interdisciplinary Cerebrovascular Disease Center was established. The regional integrated stroke treatment system--Changhai Model has been widely promoted throughout the country.

In the field of ischemic stroke research, the achievements of the Changhai team are expected to rewrite guidelines and guide clinical practice. The DIRECT-MT study led by Liu Jianmin's team was publicly published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2020, which is the first high-quality RCT study in the field of cerebrovascular disease intervention in China published in a top clinical journal. Recently, Liu Jianmin's team published the results of ENhanced Control of Hypertension ANd ThrombEctomy Stroke StuDy (ENCHANTED-2/MT) in the international top journal The Lancet, providing high-level evidence support for blood pressure management after mechanical thrombectomy and revascularization in acute ischemic stroke.

  • Pay Attention to Domestic Medical Devices and Boost National Innovation

“In the past two decades, China's neurointerventional industry has grown from scratch. We are a big country in neurointervention, but we are not yet a great power in neurointervention. To achieve this kind of transformation, we need the joint efforts of all sectors of society.”

Changhai team has rich experience in the medicine-engineering innovation model. This year's OCIN also put the concept of national innovation in a very important position.

Professor Xu Yi stressed that in terms of the current domestic situation, the combination of medicine and engineering is still an innovative mode in the exploratory stage, and there are still many difficulties to be solved. In the future, Changhai team will also actively participate in the construction of innovation ecology in the field of medical devices, improve the mechanism of sharing innovation achievements with enterprises, and promote more domestic high-end medical devices to achieve qualitative change from 0 to 1.

  • Live Surgery: 14 Domestic Centers and 1 Foreign Center Join Us

Since the first conference in 2001, live surgery has been one of the biggest features and highlights of OCIN. Different from traditional academic lectures, surgical presentations can lead participants to an immersive experience, face the first clinical scene, learn practical operation skills, and enhance their own vision and learn master thinking in the expert group discussion.

This year's live surgery is high standard and high specification. We invite 14 domestic centers and Alfried Krupp Krankenhaus in Germany to participate deeply, and 80 top experts in this field participate in the discussion. A total of 40 representative neurointerventional surgeries will be demonstrated, covering classic cases such as intracranial aneurysm, AVM, DAVF and stenosis, and there will also be surgical demonstrations of domestic neurointerventional surgery robots.

In Professor Xu Yi's opinion, surgical demonstration is a very good way to exchange experience. OCIN's live surgical broadcast over the years also represents the highest academic level in the field of neurointervention in the world. I also expect this year's OCIN to be well-received and well-recognized by all, and hope that more neurointerventional doctors around the world can join hands to promote the development of cerebrovascular diagnosis and treatment technology in order to benefit more patients through OCIN.”
